SCI17: Cultural Perspectives on Science & Technology

Explore different approaches to understanding the role of science and technology. Through your study, you will examine why objective natural scientific methodologies have come to dominate research. You will also learn how, by using different cultural frameworks, endeavour will lead us to have diff erent views of the relationship between science, technology and society. By the end of the unit students will be able to:describe the place of science and technology in our society and the implications they have for how we think and behave;describe and discuss the Information Revolution and its implications for society;identify the relationship between theory and practice - both in the university and workplace context.
